Maria & Juan

We met on a rainy Tuesday in a small coffee shop in Katipunan. Maria was finishing her thesis; Juan was hiding from the rain with a book he wasn't really reading. He offered her the last seat by the window. She offered him half her ensaymada. By the time the rain stopped two hours later, neither of us wanted to leave. Five years, two long-distance moves, one rescued dog, and countless Sunday dinners with both our families later, Juan brought Maria back to that same coffee shop — the table by the window, the same rain forecast that he definitely planned around. He didn't get down on one knee. He just asked, very quietly, if she'd like to spend the rest of her rainy Tuesdays with him. She said yes before he finished the question.
